I was at my local Target over the weekend to pick up a loofa and some Q-Tips when I came across the Maybelline Baby Lips collection in the beauty aisle. Now, I’m trying my best to be good and buy only natural products. But that voice inside my head told me why not? These smell so good and the colors are so pretty!
The rational voice in my head, thankfully, decided to chime in. At least look at the ingredients first. So I turned it over.
Yeah, I can’t pronounce those either. When reading ingredients list, keep in mind the ingredients are ordered from most to least used in the product. Not only does it seem like Maybelline put a billion odd ingredients into these little things, but I also didn’t know what any of the first few ingredients were.
Girls, this is going on your lips. You will eat food, lick your lips, and essentially eat any product you’re putting on them. Would you eat parfum/fragrance? If that’s not so bad, what about Barium Sulfate?
Needless to say, I put the box back and ran over to get my loofa and Q-Tips instead. In a world where so much of this is unnecessary, we continue to tell these companies it’s okay to sell us these things. It’s so easy to find natural alternatives that do the same thing.
For example, take the first lipstick I’ve showcased in my collage above. It’s lip tint balm by WildRoseHerbs on Etsy.
Ingredients: vitamin e, coconut oil, beeswax, cranberry seed oil, lemongrass oil, blood orange oil, rosemary extract, mango butter, rosehip seed oil
Which product would you rather put on your lips?
