On Living Alone

I’ve been living alone for the first time in my life since January. I realize every day how much I love it and how fortunate I am to be living on my own at 25. Sometimes I stop and look around in disbelief.

I have final say on everything.

I pay my rent. I pay my bills. I plant my garden. I pick my food. I buy that super-sweet-smelling candle in pink and paint my bedroom bright yellow. I don’t care what anyone else has to say about it.

I am completely self-sustained for the first time in my life, and it feels wonderful.

I have great friends, new-found hobbies that keep me moving, a man that makes me very happy, and this super special guy to always welcome me home:

More on my house soon! As you may have imagined, I moved everything around again. I’m planning on taking some pictures of the home including the garden and a semi-final shot of the closet renovation I posted earlier. Take care, and be happy!

Seed Organizer Jar

This would be a great idea for tea or seeds you’re saving. It keeps the moisture out! Plus, it saves space. Box packaging is super annoying and takes up unnecessary space.

Winston Lunar Fade Glasses

Glasses like these Winston Lunar Fade Glasses from Warby Parker make me wish I still had a valid reason for wearing specs. I found out a year or so ago that my prescription was incorrect, and I technically only need to wear glasses for 20/20 while reading. That’s a good enough excuse to buy these, right? I wish.

Hiking in San Gabriel

For the first time today, I went hiking — in mountains. Huge mountains. There were times I wondered what I was doing there, like when I had to jump from boulder to boulder over a roaring river or balance on a wobbling log, but at the very end we came to a waterfall and I couldn’t have been happier. I was even happy after I fell into the river on the way back.

I’m really glad everything turned out the way it did in 2012, or else I wouldn’t have been able to start 2013 like this.

But tomorrow I think I’ll stay grounded and work on my garden.

Happy 2013 & Update

Happy New Year!

I know what you’re thinking… Where has One Parade been the past few months? Long story short, this year has been one of the most eventful years of my life. I’ve grown tremendously as a person, my responsibilities at work have increased, I rediscovered my love for blogging, my relationship ended (yes, I am no longer getting married), I moved into a lovely new place with my dog Max, and my little sister had a beautiful baby girl named Olivia Norah.

Looking ahead at 2013, I only see more positives and opportunities for growth. This year will be all about me, exploring my interests and putting 100% of myself into everything I do.

You may see some changes here at the blog to reflect everything that has happened in my life recently. But One Parade is still here, and still kicking. I can’t wait to share my lovely new place with you all. I have many fun posts planned.
