E.L.F. Mini Haul and Review

ELF Featured Haul

I wasn’t sure where to purchase ELF products here, as I’m new to the LA area. After a bit of searching using their shop locator, I finally found a place that had them in stock! I suppose I could have ordered them online, but I don’t recommend it unless you don’t’ have any suppliers in your area — shipping is almost $7! For such dirt cheap products, I feel they charge a bit much for their fixed shipping price.

In this case I only needed three items. I was pretty impressed with this mini haul of ELF products. ELF usually tends to be a hit and miss with me, as I described in my ELF haul from this past May.

ELF Tinted Moisturizer

ELF Tinted Moisturizer

[rating=3]

Pros: I like the packaging because it’s sleek and you can see how much you have left, as well as the actual color of the product. Glides on smoothly.
Cons: I only saw three shades available. It seems a bit watery, so I’d say coverage is light. The biggest fault — not much is in the bottle!
Overall: I needed a cheap alternative to my favorite tinted moisturizer by Tarte. At $3 compared to the usual $36 I pay for Tarte…This was a steal. Don’t get me wrong, because it doesn’t even compare to Tarte’s formula! However, I do like the light coverage because my skin is in good shape and Tarte’s was a bit too heavy for me. It’s an average product at a great price, but that’s good enough for me because I don’t need much. I’ll likely continue to use this one!

ELF Brow

ELF Brow Shader and Highlighter

[rating=4]

Pros: Very soft product, unlike many other pencil brow shaders you have to be careful with your pressure. Blends beautifully!
Cons: I like the style of the packaging but this is another one of ELF’s “looks good but works badly” designs. Each end has a cap, and both of my caps are loose and fall off easily.
Overall: Natural color, blends well. Aside from the caps constantly falling off, I like it. I would purchase this again.

ELF Tinted Lip Balm

ELF Tinted Lip Balm

[rating=5]

Pros: Lovely color, smooth application, classy design.
Cons: Fades.
Overall: My only apprehension with this product is that it doesn’t stay as long as I’d like it to, but I can’t take off for that because it’s not a lipstick — it’s a tinted balm that’s bound to fade. The color is wonderful and it moisturizes well. I may see if they have a similar shade in a lipstick, but my area doesn’t carry ELF lipsticks… Which is ironic because they’re my favorite product option from ELF!

    Nice post!! I always thought their moisturizers and stuff is a bit sketchy for $1, and it sounds like it wasn't the greatest thing in the world. But at least you have a cheaper alternative to your Tarte product! I would love to try the brow pencil myself as I am in need of one! My current one is Maybelline or Revlon or something, which is affordable but I'm not a huge fan of what I'm using right now.

    It's a little tough to find ELF products here in Canada (well, in BC, anyway). I've seen them in a few stores, but they always sell them in sets of stuff (ex: a box with an eyelash curler with an eyebrow pencil and eyeliner, or something like that. Or like, 4 lipglosses in a box and I can't pick and choose the colours). I wish they sell the individual products, but they're always in boxes … at least what I've seen =(

      Thanks, Jinny! This was my first "face" product from them, as I usually just buy eyes and lips. (Mostly lips…) It's not the best but it's certainly best for those months where I can't quite invest in my Tarte yet! Great back-up, for sure.

      I highly recommend the brow pencil. Go for the lightest shade. My brows are jet black, but the light brown gives it shape without making me look ridiculous. Just make sure you get one of those brow brushes/tamers and comb your brows after you lightly shade, because it'll blend it effortlessly!

      Hmm, that's odd. ELF needs to step it up a bit… The huge Target in Florida had quite a few of their products but this new store here in California only has a handful. I refuse to pay that much for shipping dollars worth of products… And I know you have to wait forever for them to arrive! Not worth it unless there's a huge sale going on, or free shipping. :/

    I've heard great things about ELF's lip balm, and I'd try them out but I think I already have way too many lip products, haha. Though I probably would've never tried their tinted moisturizer, I'm not surprised that it's watery. After all, it is only $3, which is ridiculously cheap compared to how much tinted moisturizers usually cost. However, I always feel very iffy about using cheaper foundation/moisturizers…like they might break me out or something o_o

    I agree, ELF's shipping costs are ridiculous, but there are always these 50% off studio line products coupons out there, so when you buy quite a bit, the savings are actually more than the shipping cost. That and I can't seem to find stores that carry ELF products here in the DC area :(
