Room Tour 2010

It’s rare that I do something like this nowadays, but with my last room tour being back from 2008 I figured it would be appropriate to make an updated one! I’m currently living in my parent’s guest room. I got to choose the wall color, which is called Apple Slice. (Is that not he cutest name ever for a paint color?)

Disclaimer: The wall came out much greener in the pictures than it really is. The wall color in the picture featuring my desk is spot on for the intensity of the color. Also, I apologize for having a crappy camera and absolutely no photography skills whatsoever.

So here is my current set-up. Please click the thumbnails for a better quality picture.

What’s changed since last time?

  • My dog: Max now lives with me upstairs, so he has a part of the small bedroom to himself.
  • Less furniture: I have very little furniture now. The only pieces I own are the desk and bookcase.
  • Hidden books: My huge book collection is gone. My absolute favorite books are scattered around. My professional books are in the bookcase. I donated or sold everything else. I have over 600 digital books, so I figured hard copies taking up dust and space was just a big waste. I used to think if I crammed my bookshelf, I could show off my love for books — dumb idea when your space is limited and you move a lot.
  • Updated technology: I saved up for a (used) PS3 this past summer! You may notice Netflix — I’m loving my free trial to death. How will weekend nights be the same without it? My iPad is on my nightstand, which was actually a welcome home gift from my family and now serves as my e-reader and travel buddy.
  • Storage: My bags hang on the back of my door instead of in the closet. There’s actually nothing stored under my bed — a first!
  • Desk: I gave away my huge, towering storage desk and opted for a flat, basic one. This way I don’t get overwhelmed with clutter and everything that’s on there is essential. (Even the Perrier.) When I’m at home I use a big monitor for design purposes and just carry the laptop on its own when I travel to class. The glass monitor stand is an amazing product called a U-Board. It’s a bit pricey, made by a designer in Korea, but it fit my needs perfectly and I couldn’t be any happier with it.
  • The room: The room itself is much smaller than my other one, but I’ve learned that I’m happier with less. Also, see the wood floors? Disaster. I’m constantly dropping things on it, and I bet it’ll be ruined by the time I move out.

Your room is so cute!! I love the color, Apple Slice sounds as pretty as it looks!

I envy you the room and OMG iPad welcome home gift? All I got was a "try not to crowd the rest of us with all your crap" lecture….

How is the HP (I think it's HP?) monitor working out for you? I wanted to get one of the new Apple screen / monitor thingers, but they cost more than a MacMini!!! If that works well for you, when I finally have my own room (oh how I long for the day!) then I'll def go the cheaper route to save my wallet :3

Thanks, Renee! As odd as it sounds, since I helped decorate the guest room, it doesn't feel like…MY room. It doesn't have that cozy feeling of carpeted floor, my favorite artwork on the walls, re-arranging the furniture how I like it, etc. I guess I sacrifice that by moving back in with my parents — but I can't wait to move out!

Well, my dad had bought the iPad for the entire family after he got a new job recently. However, since I had such a craptastic break-up and had to move back home, he felt so bad that he gave it to me. Still, I'm totally lucky. I also got a very similar lecture anyway. hahaha

We have such similar tastes….! I was dying to get a new Apple monitor because it is already set up to work the way I prefer to use my desk, it comes with a isight at the top, etc. However, since I bought that PS3, I totally didn't have the money. (Even before then, honestly. It's like buying a whole new freaking computer…!) Anyway, I totally recommend this HP monitor. Here's the Amazon link where I bought it. The display isn't as drool worthy as my Macbook's, but it's 10x better than my old monitor's color display. It's definitely rich, it's just not top quality best. It's cute, and easy on the wallet for what you're getting. :)

I definitely bookmarked that monitor :3 I like it! It's not white, but since it's not Apple, anyway, that doesn't matter. It looks totally awesome and that price is WAY better than I expected. I thought it'd be about $250-300! I like it even more after seeing the price, lol, and it's spec's aren't that bad, either. I think I could live with that for the price. I totally see what you mean.

Ah, the room. I can't wait to get out of here. I'm not sure how the insurance thing will go, so I won't spam you here with needless conjecture, but lets just say we really want to move. A move would mean I'd either get a room to myself or a place of my own on land my parents would own, and either would be awesome. I love my family, but I'd like my own space again.

I'll probably invest in an iPad sometime, but right now I think it'd be a waste of my money :( I've already bought several large items this year (MacBook, Xbox 360, PS3…) so I need to hold back! Still, you got so lucky with that!!
