Summer Wardrobe Essentials

I’m not a fan of trends that will fade out after the season. (I don’t like throwing money, or clothes, away!) So I often reuse the same summer staples including shorts, shoes, and accessories year after year. I put my money into good tops that can make an outfit, and that don’t absolutely have to stay for next year.

Above is a perfect example of what I try to pull out of my closet in the summer!

Here is my take on summer wardrobe essentials that transcend trends:

  • Nails: I’m a fan of neutral nails, but I also find an excuse to go for brighter pinks in the summer. I’m a sucker for pastel pinks, like this Essie nail polish in BFF Best Boyfriend.
  • Tops: Usually the same tops I grabbed for spring, I grab for summer. Especially short/non-sleeve shirts that are made of light material. This Dorothy Perkins Bird Print Blouse is the perfect example of how you can reuse summer staples, but invest in a cute statement top or two. Love it!
  • Bottoms: Finally, I can wear shorts again! Investing in a good pair of denim shorts is a must for the summer. I prefer mid-length shorts, which will flatter most body types, like these American Eagle Denim Midi Shorts. (Which are actually on sale!)
  • Shoes: Most of my shoes are neutral (no surprise there), and I like to wear white or brown for summer. This Aldo Tossie Sandal in Tan is the perfect example of a summer staple!
  • Accessories: My Michael Kors watch is immediately what I grab for when I want something eye catching. This is a similar Michael Kors Watch in Rose Gold that goes with the outfit and dresses it up.
  • Bag: I reuse the same bag until it collapses. (My Twitter followers know what I’m talking about!) For summer I love comfortable, tan cross bodies. I’m a huge fan of Fossil bags, like this Fossil Maddox Organizer Flap. (On sale!)

Loving the wardrobe essentials you’ve put together :) I’m a huge fan of nude/pastel pink polishes as well…you can wear them all year round!

Thanks, Jenny! I agree, nude/pastel polishes are my absolute favorite.

    (Take 2!)

I love your wardrobe essentials! I would wear that outfit in a heartbeat, I love everything about it. I’m also a fan of pastel polish but I can never get it to look right on my nails when I do it myself. I ADORE that watch! I’ve been coveting a very similar model for a year now. I wish MK’s watches were cheaper.

Thanks, Alix! That’s funny because I usually have the easiest time with applying pastel/nudes. It’s the deep colors I have issues with! The more you paint your nails the better you get, I’ve found. Oh, I LOVE MK’s watches. Mine is similar to that above, but the face is pink. Now I want this one for more of a contrast… But mine was my “major” Christmas present last year. I was begging for it all year! Wish they were cheaper too… I have to say, the rose gold finish chips away very easily. :( Just around the face, but it’s still a shame.

Funny enough, I’m really good at putting on deep colours! lol I feel in love with a model very similar (probably was “inspired by” MK) last winter on gilt.com. I was about to buy but the shipping and duty fees were
so ridiculously high that it was negated the point of buying it cheaper. I think I might know what to ask as my next birthday or Christmas present! ;)

I wish I could put on deep colors easily… I get it all over the place.

I think since I have an MK watch I’ll go for more inspired looks. (Thanks for sharing the link!) There are only so many Christmas wishes in one year. Haha! It was well worth spending a wish on it. Gorgeous watch, and it has gotten me so many compliments when I wear it to work meetings. ;) Totally makes an outfit!
