Take This Time To Help Someone

Posted in Do It Yourself on Jun 23, 2009.

I came across a few of these today, and I want to share some of them. I think sometimes the internet becomes all about us, when there’s a lot of good that you can do with a few clicks of boredom. You can help someone else while waiting for your class to start, your site to upload, and the video to buffer. Or instead of playing Facebook games, some games you will find below are for a better cause than simply your entertainment. Maybe you’ll just look at these once, but that one time will have done some good.

  1. There are many women who aren’t able to receive proper medical care to prevent breast cancer. Clicking this site provides free mammograms to women. (Visit?)
  2. You can sign this petition to end whaling, and play the free game on the website if you’re bored. (Visit?)
  3. This game helps improve your vocabulary. For every question you get right, Free Rice donates rice to an impoverished country. (Visit?)
  4. There are villages in the world that don’t even have access to a simple cup of water. FreePoverty donates 10 cups of water for every correct answer you get on their site. (Visit?)
  5. Instead of sending a text or mailing a card, send an e-card. Every e-card sent through this site helps feed chimps. (Visit?)
  6. Every year, men in the Faroe Islands of Denmark kill hundreds of dolphins (known as Calderon) as a right of passage. You can see GRAPHIC images of this here. This is animal cruelty. You can sign a petition against it here. (Visit?)
  7. Every ten seconds, an animal in the U.S. is physically abused. The World Society for the Protection of Animals hosts a petition on this site to prevent the abuse of domestic animals. (Visit?)
  8. Instead of visiting your Facebook page all day, visit this site just once a day. The advertising sponsors will donate money to help save land. (Visit?)
  9. In less than 5 years, the Earth’s tropical rainforests will be diminished to only 15%. By simply clicking the link provided on this website, you can plant a tree thousands of miles away, in Nicaragua. (Visit?)
  10. Reading is one of my passions, but there are millions of children right here in the U.S. who can’t read. By clicking this site, you can provide them with books and the tools needed to improve literacy. (Visit?)
  11. Google is an addiction for me, I use it all the time. But next time you have to use a search engine, don’t opt for Google or Yahoo!, use Goodsearch. You select a charity, and every time you search through Goodsearch they donate to your charity. (Visit?)
  12. I don’t eat meat, but even if you do you may want to take a look at this website. The homes of the Akuntsu tribe of Brazil are being torn down to make room for cattle ranchers. Over 100 children have died during the migration. You can learn more about it here. (Visit?)
